Since individual needs vary a lot from person to person, we suggest you email or call the Tecnic Driving School outlet in your area.
Friendly reminder: If you’re attracted by one of our competitors’ listed price on their websites why don’t you call and check what the asking price corresponds to. Here are a few questions to ask when you call for information: Does it correspond to the number of training hours you need? What does the contract really include? What does it not include?
At Tecnic, our prices are competitive and our contracts clear.
At Tecnic our contracts are usually valid for 18 months. If you have not completed your courses by the end of the contract, the contract may be extended under certain conditions. The contract duration is clearly written on the contract you will be signing. The contract duration may vary with the Tecnic Driving School outlets.
You may start your theory lectures a few weeks before you turn 16. Once you turn 16 and have completed the first 4 theory modules of the new mandatory program you may take the theory test at the school where you enroll. This will entitle you to go to the SAAQ, pass an eye examination, pay the required fees and obtain your Learner’s Licence.
The mandatory program is spread through 13 months.
You may pass your first theory exam (On module 5 at the Driving School) once you have completed the first 4 modules (Approximately 1 month after starting your theory lectures.).
10 months after getting your Learner’s Licence, if you have completed your 12 theory modules you may make an appointment with the SAAQ and pass your second theory test at the SAAQ.
12 months after getting your Learner’s Licence, after completing your mandatory 15 in-car sessions you may pass your behind- the- wheel test if you already passed your theory test successfully.
If your Learner’s Licence is about to expire, quickly get in touch with the Tecnic Driving School in your area to determine when you can start your courses. Depending on the number of months left before your Learner’s expires, the personnel will work hard to provide you with a schedule corresponding to your needs.

Many factors may explain failing the SAAQ test.
- Stress
Based on the feedback we’re getting from students, stress is often an important contributing factor in failing the SAAQ test. To overcome the stress factor we highly recommend practicing driving with many different persons in a variety of locations.
- Practicing too little
Although standard driving courses consist of fifteen 55 minute in-car sessions, it has been proven repeatedly that new drivers must practice a number of hours between lessons given by the driving school. The objectives here are to implement learnt concepts in real situations and also to multiply the number of conditions requiring the new driver to cope and adjust.
- Insufficient training
The standard driving course consisting of fifteen 55 minute in-car sessions may be adequate for a majority of people as long as they practice a lot between in-car sessions. You should know that a great number of students need extra lessons to strengthen some of their weak points (Parallel Parking). Although the Government has determined that an attestation cannot be given before completing a 15 X 55 standard course, a number of individuals need 20 or even 30 in-car sessions to feel safe.
FAQ scooter

FAQ motorcycle
Yes they are. However, the content of these courses is totally different from the automobile mandatory theory courses. Most of the topics taught in the classroom are almost all exclusively relating to motorcycles. There is just a short reminder of the Highway Safety Code, Road Signs and Traffic Signals.
The first step is to complete your theory courses. They consist of three 3 sessions fo 3 hour for a total of 9 hours.
You must then pass the SAAQ theory test towards getting your 6R Motorcycle Licence. This Licence entitles you to take practical lessons.
Practical lessons consist of 22 hours of training as follows:
- 18 hours are given on an off-road closed circuit (Four 4.5 hour sessions)
- 4 hours on the road system (Two 2 hour sessions)
The entire practical training is usually spread through 4 weeks
After the training is over, you must pass the SAAQ off-road closed circuit test – (called the "MOST" exam). If successful, you obtain your 6A Licence.
This is a motorcycle Learner’s licence that you must keep for 7 months.
During these 7 months, you may ride a motorcycle but only if you are accompanied. The accompanier must hold a valid Class 6 Motorcycle Licence. This period of practice aims at getting you ready for the last step: the SAAQ motorcycle on-road test to get your real Class 6 Motorcycle Licence
Generally speaking, courses are given with 250CC to 650CC motorcycles using Custom as well as sport models
Moreover, during your course you’ll be given the opportunity to try different models. Each Tecnic school use a number of brands and models of motorcycles. If you don’t feel confortable with one motorcycle or wish to try another model, you may change motorcycle.
When you enrol, don’t hesitate to inquire about available models and brands!
Actually many people are in this situation. If you don’t have an accompanier and wish to ride during the summer months, many Tecnic schools offer rides where an experienced instructor will accompany a group in some of the nicest corners of the province. These rides may vary in lengths, according to your needs.
If you prefer to ride alone with an instructor or be part of a group of people you know, no problems. Private or semi-private courses are also available at most Tecnic schools. To schedule dates feel free to contact your neareast Tecnic school.
The good news is you don’t have to wait to pass your SAAQ motorcycle tests.
In other words, if you already followed your motorcycle course and still have your attestation, you can make an appointment with the SAAQ and pass the 3 mandatory tests (theory, closed circuit and on-road). You don’t have to wait 7 months as prescribed by law.
You may contact the Tecnic school closest to you to schedule some test preparation courses.
On the other hand, if you haven’t followed your motorcycle training course you’ll have to take the complete training before taking your tests.
There is however, no waiting period.
Generally speaking, Tecnic provides motorcycles and crash helmets. On cold days however, wear warmer clothes and appropriate foot wears.
